Through this extremely edited-down photo journal, I
want people to think about the amount of work that goes into making a bag...
or a dress or a pair of jeans for that matter. There are many steps, especially
if the piece is one-of-a-kind. No two jackets that I find are alike. Each
one must be deconstructed and design decisions must be made.
Cost of goods have become so cheap that we cannot even fathom how time consuming
it is to make a product. As a child I used to imagine products popping out
of big industrial machines, never touching human hands. The reality couldn't
be further from that. Trendy, cheap clothing propagates the mistreatment
of factory workers and only creates more goods to add to our landfills.
If somebody looks at a fair trade, locally made, or handcrafted product and
thinks it is too expensive, I ask them to think about the value of the time,
creativity and skills of the people making the product. If customers are not
paying for the true cost of goods, it is the workers and our earth who are
paying when we support mass market fashion.
Please email us if you have any questions or suggestions about our bags, ordering, wholesale... or if you just want to say hi!
